UNWeb - computer that hosts a web site.IX - A computer operating system which allows more than one user at a time.  It is the most common operating system on the Internet.
Uniform Resource Locator (URL) - The address of a resource on the World Wide Web (www.fim.edu).
V
V.90 - The modem standard for 56xbps modems; a new combination of 56K-flex and X2 technologies; 56K-flex and X2 modems can usually be upgraded to V.90 standards via software or hardware. 
Virus - A program designed to destroy data or halt operation; copies itself into files and executes when those flies are loaded into RAM; causes extreme damage; anti-virus software checks files for known viruses and eliminates them; it is strongly recommended to frequently update automatic anti-virus software.

Wav - standard sound files
Web - computer that hosts a web site.
Whiteboard - A program in which multiple users can work on the same document simultaneously, often included in newer versions of web browsers.
WHOIS - A TCP/IP utility that provides information on registered network names.
Wide Area Information (WAIS) - Software that is used to index large text files in servers.  It retrieves resources by searching indexes of databases.
Wide Are Network (WAN) - A network that covers an area larger than a single building.
Word stuffing (aka spamdexing) - The practice of placing keywords on a web site numerous times (even in obscure ways such as white text on white background) to ensure search engines will bring up the site as one of the top keyword matches.
World-Wide Web (WWW) - A network of servers that retrieve resources by browsers using hypertext links to find and access files on databases.
